©Delegates at the African Green Revolution Forum 2020
On 8-11 September, the 10th annual AGRF summit took place virtually and in Kigali, Rwanda. The summit registered the largest ever attendance in the history of the conference, with over 10,400 delegates and 320 speakers from 113 countries.
The AGRF is the world’s premier forum for advancing Africa’s agricultural agenda. This year, its theme was “Feed the Cities, Grow the Continent: Leveraging Urban Food Markets to Achieve Sustainable Food Systems in Africa”. The underlying call to action was to rethink African food systems in order to deliver a more resilient, better nourished, and more prosperous outcome for all.
Highlights from the summit included:

The Agribusiness Deal Room, which saw 3,611 delegates from 91 countries exploring investment opportunities valued at over US$ 4.7 bn in the aggregate, in 1,000 investment and partnership meetings.

The first-ever forum of farmers of the AGRF Summit, calling for a central role for farmers in policy and public budgeting processes and more generally in the design of the future of African food systems.

The Youth Town Hall session, which was attended by H.E. President Kagame of Rwanda, who challenged young people to take charge of the African agricultural plans and lead the agricultural revolution that will drive the continent to food security and economic rejuvenation.

The Presidential Summit, which brought together current and former presidents and heads of state and leaders of international organizations around a common sense of urgency for the need for a collective effort to realize Africa’s potential for self-sufficient food systems.
