Finance in Common Summit 2021: Outcomes for the future of financing sustainable agriculture

The second edition of the Finance in Common Summit was hosted by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Italy’s Development Finance Institution, in partnership with IFAD in Rome, Italy on 19-20 October 2021. The summit was the culmination of a year's work by a coalition of Public Development Banks (PDBs), and its various thematic sub-groups on climate finance, adaptation and social investment.

The event brought together 6 public bank networks, 23 national development banks, 14 multilateral or regional banks, 11 universities and think tanks, and many representatives from the private sector, central banks and NGOs. 194 high-level speakers took the floor at the Summit, which was watched by 2,900 people online from 90 countries, and alternated between plenary, research and thematic sessions.


Key outcomes of the summit for the future of financing sustainable agriculture include:

  • a live database established in partnership with Peking University to track the financing flows of 527 development banks;

  • the publication of a comprehensive overview of public financing in the agricultural sector conducted by Dr. Laura Vigano' from the University of Bergamo, with support from IFAD and the French Development Agency (AFD);

  • the launch of the Platform for Green and Inclusive Food Systems, to be developed at IFAD, which will provide member PDBs with technical assistance, opportunities for knowledge exchange, support to innovative initiatives, and tools to measure the social and environmental impacts of their investments.


The next Summit will take place in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire and will be hosted by the African Development Bank and the European Investment Bank.
