About the Publication

Small-scale farmers in the Philippines, who frequently have difficulty getting bank loans, now have access to financing thanks to a partnership between the Philippines’ Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) SME Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The collaboration provided a package of low-interest loans and technical assistance to farmers, which collectively helped increased the amount of loans given to farmers by more than ten times in just four years. This study demonstrates how blended finance can open up new opportunities for farmers and remove existing barriers that stymie growth in the agriculture sector.
