About the Publication

After a long period of neglect, minor millets like proso, kodo and browntop millets gained popularity in India in recent years as highly nutritious and climate-resilient indigenous crops. The Government of India declared 2018 as the National Year of Millets and proposed that 2023 should be named the International Year of Millets.

This Investment Prospectus builds on this momentum by analyzing investment opportunities in the minor millets value chain, which holds significant potential for impact on local nutrition, incomes, and climate resilience, in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. It also lays out recommendations for policymakers and financial service providers to strengthen the enabling environment around farmer producer organizations and agri-SMEs, which play critical roles in this value chain.
