SAFIN member
The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is responsible for Germany’s development policy within the federal government. Guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement, the BMZ focuses on combating poverty and hunger and promoting the global shift towards sustainable, climate-friendly, and nature-compatible economies. With its development cooperation activities under the special Initiative “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems” Germany is contributing to fighting hunger and malnutrition.
In the area of agricultural finance, BMZ enhances access to financial services for small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises. Key focuses include promoting access to credit, capacity building, innovative financing mechanisms like blended finance, digital financial services, and partnerships. Additionally, BMZ works on policy and regulatory frameworks to support agri-SMEs.
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the KfW development bank, both federally owned, support the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. Regarding agricultural finance, GIZ provides technical assistance to both the supply and demand sides, while KfW focuses on development financing.
