About the Publication
Digitization is expected to provide an important avenue for African economies to advance across different sectors. In agriculture, which employs over 65% of the population across the region, there is an increasing transition from in-person service provision to new digital platforms offering services even in the most remote locations. This report examines the universe of agritech and fintech providers that influence access to finance for small-scale farmers and agricultural SMEs in East and Southern Africa, exploring their potential to become commercially viable and achieve scale. The study also documents the role of concessional capital in the growth trajectory of tech providers in ESA.
