Special Event with the Private Sector

Taking stock of Progress: scaling up transformative private sector investment in food systems

Convened by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Bank Group, with support from SAFIN, GAIN, WBA, WBCSD, GFFN, ATNI and WEF.

Date and time: 25 July 2023, 16:30 – 17:30 CET

Location: Red Room, FAO Headquarters

The private sector plays an essential role in scaling up investment needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Similarly, the UN Food Systems Summit called for private sector investments, market-based solutions, and innovations to step up financing and shift towards healthier, inclusive, more equitable and sustainable food systems.

The UNFSS +2 STM private sector Special Event will provide a multi-stakeholder platform for food systems private sector actors (multinationals, primary producers, SMEs, investors, public and private banks, and representatives from the governments and development partners) to take stock on progress of private sector transformative investment at scale for food systems. The special event is a continuum of the high-level session on financing for food systems transformation (High level session). It is designed as a deep dive in the challenge of mobilizing private sector investment at the scale and scope needed for food systems transformation. The aim is to emulate progress towards a new food finance architecture.

  • Food systems transformation must recognize and include smallholder farmers and agricultural SMEs as key contributors and drivers of positive change.
  • Investment and support are key enablers for the transformative actions needed at scale.
  • Collaboration and partnership will foster a collective global vision to transform food systems.
