Through a US$65 million senior loan, Proparco will help UNIFIN further support projects in clean energy, energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture, and financial inclusion in Mexico.

Created in 1993, UNIFIN has grown to become a leading player in the financing of SMEs in Mexico through financial services and products tailored to the needs of Mexican entrepreneurs, such as leasing and factoring.

Proparco’s US$65 million financing facility will further strengthen UNIFIN’s activities towards SMEs, in particular in the sustainable agriculture sector. This operation, Proparco’s first with UNIFIN, will support financial inclusion in Mexico at a time when SMEs are particularly affected by the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This project will also contribute to the fight against climate change since 25% of the credit line will be specifically targeted towards clean energy and energy efficiency projects (mitigation projects).

This operation will contribute to Sustainable Development Goals #8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), #9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructures) and #13 (Climate Action).
